Never give up on your goals, dreams, and aspirations. Stay strong, stay confident, and know that you have chosen the right path. The obstacles that come your way serve as a test as to how badly do you want to achieve that goal. Don’t let the obstacles win and take you off your path. Try these tips for never giving up.

Here are 6 tips for never giving up on your goals. Refer to these tips when the going gets tough. At the end of this I also reveal what to do if all else fails.

  1. Bend but don’t break

You may be failing to reach your goals, but that doesn’t mean you should quit going after that goal. You may have to adjust your original plans and find another way to get there. In sports you have defenders who will try to stop you from winning. It’s your job to win despite their efforts. This is the same concept in life.

  2. Learn from someone who inspires you

Whether it’s your Dad, Mom, family member, actor, athlete, or a local dentist, you can turn to them for inspiration. You obviously look up to them for a reason, and you are inspired to make them proud of you somehow. Their story is not without their own doubts, setbacks, and failures. Learn how they overcame to become who they are today.

  3. Remember “Why”

There’s a reason you decided to pursue that goal or dream. Sometimes along your journey it gets lost in the shuffle and you have to remind yourself of those reasons again. If you don’t already have a “why” then you are doing yourself an injustice. Write down your heartfelt, or meaningful reasons as to why this goal is important to you and who it will benefit.  This should really move you into action.

  4. Write down your “underdog story”

I’ve written before about becoming the underdog in your own story here.  Go to your journal, use your imagination, and write a quick story about the obstacles that are troubling you right now. To finish off your quick story, write down how you willed yourself to overcome the impossible and how you became victorious. Have fun with this one, it will make you feel better.

  5. Go to your mentor or support group for advice

As stated in one of my favorite books, Think and Grow Rich, you should always seek advice before quitting. This is important because you can’t see yourself in the picture frame. This means that sometimes you need a fresh pair of eyes or opinions to give you some insight. They may see or point out something that you did not see.

  6. Workout & Meditate

Exercising is a great way to refocus. Whether you’re running on the treadmill, or lifting weights it pushes you to dig harder. Physically you’re challenging your body, and your body will respond. Afterwards you should meditate. Close your eyes and focus on nothing. Clear your mind and challenge your mind to be at ease for 30 minutes. Near the end use autosuggestion to boost your confidence. You’ll be surprised at the results. Once you’ve done this you should be ready to go after your goals once again.

If after all of this, and you still feel as if you need to quit something, you may need to pick up everything that you’ve learned so far and choose another path that feels right for you. The lessons that you’ve learned so far will definitely help you on your next path, therefore the time that you’ve put in already will not go in vain. Every closed-door will open up a better door. That’s something that you have to wholeheartedly believe in as well.
